The book Twilight vs the movie Twilight has been one of the most argued prompts on which one is better, but why? Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight saga captured many young people’s hearts in the early 2000’s. Many believe that Meyers work was so attractive to young people due to the damsel in distress aspect. Twilight still has a great impact on today’s generation, especially on social media. Although both the movie Twilight, and the Book Twilight relatively follow the same prompt there are still differences.
Twilight was written by Stephenie Meyer in 2005 and was later brought to cinema in 2008. The plot consists of a teen girl named Bella Swan who came back to Forks, Washington to spend some time with her dad, while her mom and stepdad travel. She later meets a vampire named Edward Cullen. Edward and his family try to protect Bella from vampires who don’t see humans as equals, but as snacks. While this is happening, Edward is also refusing to change Bella into a vampire.
In the book Twilight, Stephanie Meyers did not describe Bella physical characteristics, instead she left them out so the reader could feel like they were Bella in her story. Bella is seen to be this shy, clumsy, self-conscious teen girl in the beginning of the book, but throughout she grows to face her fears, and open more in her new environment. Through my experience with reading the book Twilight I also admired how Stephanie Meyer didn’t mention how Bella looked, I often create people in my head based on personality traits more than physical traits. When Bella had to leave forks to escape James, who was obsessed with hunting her, just to fall into a trap with him, you could feel the emotions that Bella was feeling at that exact moment.
In the movie Twilight, the movie is filmed with a blue tint on the lens to give off a cold feeling. Also, in the movie Bella is seen as a relatively petite girl with brown hair and striking features, which is not described in the book. Also, in the movie Twilight a corrupt vampire named Victoria appears at the end of the movie to be disheveled and broken, at Bellas prom. In the book twilight Vitoria is not mentioned until the second book. The book Twilight has 500 pages, and they squeezed some scenes to be shorter or cut the scenes that were in the book, to fit into a 2-hour long movie, and by using special effects rather than going into depth on what supernatural powers each Cullen family member had also sped up the script. So, if you’re looking for a story that goes by faster the Twilight movie will be better for that. Through my experience with the Twilight movie, I like how I can start it, walk away and do something, then come back and resume watching or pause. Being able to watch Twilight, it made it more vibrant and straight forward.
A con revolving around the movie Twilight includes, Bella not being as sassy. In the book Twilight, Bella made me chuckle a couple times throughout the book, but in the movie Twilight when Bella was sarcastic or said a joke, it came off lifeless or dry. Overall, in the movie the characters lacked personality compared to the book. A pro revolving around the movie Twilight include the soundtrack. I adore the twilight soundtrack to this day. It’s a mix of folklore and grunge, which paired perfectly with the movie.
A
pro revolving around the book twilight includes the fact that almost every Cullen
family member had their own backstory, where Charlise and Alice’s backstories
are never mentioned in the movie. A con revolving the book twilight is that
some chapters or scenes where repetitive or just carried on for to long.
Overall, in my opinion I really don’t have a preference, I go back in fourth between watching the movie and reading books. For me it all depends on what my mood is and what I’m looking for when it comes to entertainment. If I want a more emotional or intimate narrative I reach for the book. I also reach for the book if I’m on a road trip or if I’m trying to waste some time. When I want a more visual experience I will reach for a movie. Or if I just want background sound I will reach for a movie as well. I believe it’s all just a preference, if you want a more intimate experience pick up the book, but if you want a more visual experience pick up the movie. It also depends on where you are and what you are looking for as well. Hopefully by reading my points it will help you choose the best way to explore Stephanie Meyers Twilight saga.
In conclusion, I would choose the book over the movie. I prefer a more in-depth plot, and Stephanie Meyers does a great job at that. Even though the movie does a good job at making sure that the plot is parallel to the book, the movie lacks some mystical aspects, since books must describe events to a tee, it helps me follow along. Stephanie Myers Twilight sage is defiantly not for everyone, but if you ever want to go down a rabbit hole of emotions between a human girl and a vampire, Twilight might just be for you.
As a Twilight lover myself, I loved reading this article! Great job on introducing the plot and the characters, I think you nailed it!
ReplyDeleteI have never read the books but have watched the movies and found them really enjoyable! Your article has made me want to read the books to personally see the differences. Great job!
ReplyDeleteI have never seen the Twilight movie or read the book. I decided to take a look at this paper to see how both compared and the comparison provided did not disappoint. I have found that with most books that have movies or vice versa the books always seem to go more in-depth.
ReplyDeleteI have only ever watched the movies but never read the books. I didn't know that so soon after the books got written they got turned into a movie, so that was cool to hear. I also really liked the structure of article and how clear it was. I really liked your paper!
